How to Block Your Ex on Email
There might be situations where you need to block your ex from contacting you directly, whether it's through calls, texts, or emails. This can be a necessary step for personal well-being. Here's how to do it across various platforms, ensuring you don't miss important communications like group emails regarding your children.
For context on why and when to consider blocking, see our article on Why to Block Your Ex.
Blocking Emails
When blocking emails, be mindful that you may still want to receive emails where your ex is not the sole sender, such as group emails from your child’s school.
For Gmail Users:
Open Gmail, and go to a message from your ex.
Click on the three dots (more) next to the reply button.
Choose 'Block [Sender’s Name]'.
Note: This will send emails from this sender to your spam folder. Emails where your ex is not the primary sender will still appear in your inbox.
For Outlook Users:
Open Outlook, and go to a message from your ex.
Right-click on the message and select 'Junk' > 'Block Sender'.
Note: Outlook will move these messages to your Junk Email folder.
For Yahoo Mail Users:
Open Yahoo Mail, and click on the gear icon for settings.
Go to 'More Settings' > 'Security and Privacy'.
Click on ‘+ Add’ next to ‘Blocked addresses’.
Enter your ex’s email address and click 'Save'.
Note: Yahoo Mail will delete these messages upon arrival.
For Hotmail Users:
Open Hotmail, and go to a message from your ex.
Click on the gear icon (settings) and select 'Options'.
Under 'Preventing junk email', click 'Safe and blocked senders'.
Go to 'Blocked senders', enter the email address, and click 'Add to list'.
Note: Emails from this sender will be sent to the Junk Email folder.
Blocking your ex on your phone and email can be an essential step for maintaining your mental health. However, when you share children, it's important to ensure you don’t miss out on essential communications that involve them. Always have an alternate method of communication or arrangement in place for necessary contact related to your children.
Take the steps you need for your peace of mind, and remember, your well-being is crucial.
